It’s that time of year again, the time that Whatcom County locals call “Fair Week.” The Northwest Washington Fair begins today in Lynden and is going on until Saturday. Fair Gates open daily at 9am, vendors open 1oam, Carnival rides start at 11am and the fair closes daily at 11pm.
Gate admission to the fair is $10 for ages 13 and older, $8 for ages 62 and older, $5 for ages 6-12 and ages 5 and under are free. If you are looking to ride some of the carnival rides the rides start at $3 per ride or you can buy an all day pass for $30 and have unlimited rides all day.
Whether it’s crafting displays, animals, amazing food, machinery, music, entertainment or talent displays you are sure to find something to fit your needs at the Northwest Washington Fair. One of my fair favorites happens to be all the kids 4-H animals. It’s so neat to so all the hard work and dedication that the youth of Whatcom County put into raising their animals to show at the fair and then in most cases auction off in the livestock auction Friday on the fairgrounds. The kids put in countless hours of work at the fair. One little gal told me that she arrives on the grounds at 5:30am in the morning and does not leave until 10:30pm each day. Each day the kids must wash and clean up after their animals and clean the fair’s barn and facilities in which their animals are housed, making for a long hard work for a lot of kids as noted by the picture I took at left of a little girl asleep in the barn cuddled up with her cow.
