Stoney Ridge Farms- A Wonderful Fall Destination.

CIMG0032If you or your family have never visited Stoney Ridge Farms in Everson, this is the year. After 25 years this will be the family farms last Fall season. Open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday in October Stoney Ridge Farms has Fall Activities for everyone. They boast the largest pumpkin patch in all of Whatcom County, hay rides, farm animal viewing, corn maze, cafe with fresh apple cider and so much more.

My family has made Stoney Ridge a yearly tradition and we often spend the whole day at the farm. We love to walk in the barn and check out the piglets, goats, horses and donkeys. There is an abundance of animals to see and some that you can even feed. The pies from the cafe are wonderful and I highly recommend the carmel apple pie. We also purchase all our fall decorations from the farm each year including a large variety of small gourds and large pumpkins, they have it all.Stoney Ridge House

Every year we visit the farm we leave with wonderful memories, stomach’s full of fresh baked pie and a whole bunch of pumpkins and gourds to decorate our home.

During the month of December the farm will be open  to the public and is the go to spot to pick out your fresh cut Christmas tree from there large farm.  The barn is also home to a live animal nativity, holiday crafts and baked goods.

If you are interested in heading out to Stoney Ridge Farms they are located at 2902 Van Dyk Rd in Everson. From Bellingham head North of the Guide Meridian, East on the Pole Rd, and then turn left onto the Van Dyk Rd. Stoney Ridge  Farms will be on your right hand side with parking on your left. Opening day is Thursday October 3rd. I will do another post about the farm with more photos after my annual visit this year.

"Reel" Estate Fishing Report for Blackmouth Salmon by Mike Bredeson

Wow, what a start to the 2013 Salmon season which runs December 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013. Several of our clients and friends have had a fruitful start with days in the double digits for landed fish. The current hot locations are Tide Pt, Pt Lawrence and Obstruction Pass. It seems like at the beginning of the season the fish are concentrated in the southern part of Marine Area 7 north.
The Johnson Team 2902 Trophy has managed to make a couple trips to Alden Bank, just outside Sandy Point with some success. In 3 trips out with 7 hrs total fishing we have brought back 4 salmon with an average of a takedown every ½ hr. With the limited time on the water we have just stuck with flashers and spoons. As the middle of February approaches the bait will switch to small anchovies and herring.
If you need a current report give us a call – 360-303-2734 or if you have photos to share email them to and we will get them up on the blog.  Happy Fishing!

Do You Have an Old Appliance Your Need To Get Rid Of? Call the Appliance Depot!

The success of Bellingham’s Appliance Depot is creating new challenges for the business.

Since opening in 2005, Appliance Depot has saved and sold over 6,000 used appliances that would otherwise have been crushed and recycled. But each year the number of households seeking an affordable appliance has grown, and the  job training program needs more appliances to keep up with demand. In spite of great community support, over 80% of locally discarded appliances are still crushed for recycling without any consideration for repair and reuse. If you know of someone purchasing a new appliance over the holidays, please ask them to have their installer leave the nonworking appliance on the curb or in their driveway for Appliance Depot to collect. They provide free pickup service in Bellingham. You can reach the Appliance Depot at 527-2646.

There are many reasons why reuse is better than recycling and most importantly because it creates local jobs! The Appliance Depot  partners with social service agencies to provide job training employment for over 40 low-income workers each year. They  believe that local resources should support a local economy with a repair ethic. With your help, they can be a model for a sustainable future when repair and reuse will replace our throw-away culture.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word. Have a fantastic Holiday Season!

"Reel" Estate Salmon Fishing Report for the San Juan Island Area

The fishing in the San Juan Islands has been nothing less than spectacular. A good friend Ralph from the Gig Harbor area had a great report for the middle of March “26 keepers,” in one day. The limit is 2 fish per day but catch and release is allowed. Another report from the last Sunday in March was “12 Salmon,” from good friend and client Rod Nau.

We think the best report of the year is from one of The Johnson Team’s most treasured past clients, Mike McAuley. Mike along with Kirk Hawley, both from Ferndale and Pat Phillips, from the Eastern Washington area managed several fish between March 31-April 1st in the Annual Anacortas Salmon Derby. They won 2nd place and the several thousand dollars side bets. Smiles all around for the crew of the – Fish-n-Jul. Most of the large fish in the derby were caught on bait but some spoons are still very effective as the season comes to a close.

Congrats on the big win guys, looks like a very successful fishing derby! If you need any fishing tips give The Johnson Team Fishing Hotline a call (360)303-2734 and we are happy to help.
